More About Harvest Moon :Connect a New World

In cheerier news, Harvest Moon: Connect to a New World is out in Japan! The Japanese players have been posting a lot of in-game screenshots to the Miiverse community. If you have a Nintendo Network ID (created only by using a Nintendo console) you can visit the game's Miiverse by going to your Communities, scrolling down to the bottom to change your region to Japan, and then selecting the 3DS communities; since it is recent, it should be up near the top of the list. It has a picture of a pink Angora Rabbit as its menu icon.

After you start your game, you spend the first week with Edda, who manages the farm next to your own. After that, she'll give you a cow and Veronica will assign you to your run-down farm. Eventually you can upgrade your house and customize its furniture. You can even buy a television set to watch the daily weather on, and a gift wrapping station to wrap the gifts you give to your favorite villages. Your farm starts out with a cow barn (since you do get a free cow from Edda) but you'll have to build the chicken coop, just like in Harvest Moon: A New Beginning.

Before you create your 3x3 crop fields, you have to clear the empty area by breaking up rocks and chopping down trees. You can water your crops twice per day. New crops include Burdock Root, Chili Pepper, Paprika (which did exist in Grand Bazaar), Melon (similar to Honeydew in Animal Parade), Lemon Tree, and Andes Potato. Almonds are in the game, but I don't know if they're grown or foraged. Some of these crops come from the international trade center, where you can also buy Wasabi sprouts (instead of just getting one per two trips to Land of the East in ANB). You also sell your farm produced items at the trade center by setting up a stall. There are a variety of stall types to choose from based on what you want to sell and the potential customers who are visiting the trade center. You can also earn money by completing requests from the trade center.

There are a few different festivals in this version of Harvest Moon: missing are the honey festival, critter festival, foliage festival, pumpkin festival, and snow festival. Instead, there is a spring fashion show, fall fashion show, a tea festival, and a pet show. The multi-day fishing festival from ANB is now only one day.

More information will filter through as players get through the game. Keep an eye on the Fogu forum if you're interested

And here is the April Nintendo DREAM comic!

New World in a Week | Posted at 10:39 AM on 21 February 2014Marvelous AQL updated the official Harvest Moon: Connect to a New World website today, adding in three more Harvest Sprites and the two special marriage candidates:

Returning as potential spouses from Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns are Reina and Cam. Both of these candidates do not have friendship flowers that appear on their character portraits when you talk to them, which makes it a little bit more challenging to judge how high your friendship is with them. The new Harvest Sprites are Torque (purple), Custo (blue), and Mora (orange).

Being that there is now only one week to go before the game is for sale in Japan, many of the large gaming magazines, such as Dengeki Nintendo and Nintendo Dream, have published in-depth articles about the latest entry in the Harvest Moon video game series. These magazines have introduced several more normal characters that have not been published on the official website as of today:

  • The return of an older Witchkins from Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands

  • A new bubbly child Harvest Goddess, basically an equivalent Harvestkins to the Witch Princess' niece, Witchkins

  • The bi-seasonal fashion show judge and aristocrat, Del Cosa

  • The effeminate pink-haired male doctor, Marian

These characters will most likely appear on the official website soon!

Wantatatatatataaaaaan! | Posted at 10:39 AM on 14 February 2014Happy Winter Harmony Day! We have two weeks to go until Harvest Moon: Connect to a New World is out in Japan. MAQL is still releasing information about the newest entry into the Harvest Moon game series.

On the official website this week the company has introduced some of the festival judges. We have Saffron the pirate chef (for cooking festivals), Matsuba the vegetable expert (for crop festivals), and our favorite weird dog-costumed animal trainer Wantatan (for animal festivals). Is he a man? A dog? Who knows! He's a Wantatan, and we'll just leave it at that.

MAQL and Nintendo have started promoting the game by adding an entry for it on the Japanese Nintendo 3DS digital eShop. Players can add the game to their wish list, but the game will not be available for digital download on release. It is categorized as game cartridge only. That doesn't mean that it will never be for sale on the Japanese eShop; it took over a year from its Feb 2012 release date for Harvest Moon: A New Beginning to be downloadable off of the JP eShop. There is still a chance that Nintendo and MAQL will have the game available for sale on the eShop at a later date.

The eShop entry includes a few new screen shots, including some from the bottom screen (previously, all promo screen shots have been of the upper screen of the 3DS):

As you can see, the town houses appear to be in a fixed layout. It is also Spring 14, and the Spring Harmony Day festival (as marked with a star on the in-game clock). You have access to your rucksack and the save menu, and what appears to be a notebook, possibly used to keep track of the requests you accept from the international Trade Center. There are even a few villagers. Our demo-farmer is also rather poor, as he only has 500 G.

MAQL also noted on the official page that the new goat livestock animal is called an Angora Goat, which means we'll probably be collecting its wool rather than its milk.

The official Japanese television commercials have been posted to MAQL's Harvest Moon Youtube playlist, but they don't contain any new details about the game. The girl in the commercial is 19-year-old tv actress Ito Oono.

Back to farm'n!
